Failure to Maintain

I recently purchased a new home. Although I love it, my back yard is a major issue. I have a huge ditch directly behind me. I don’t have grass back there yet so Im losing property everytime it rains (anybody in Louisiana knows how often that is). Anyway I’ve been told if I plant Rye grass along the side of the ditch it will grow quick and help stop the erosion. Can anybody tell me if this is true or a myth. Also any suggestions on a quick growing grass that will kill out any unwanted weeds? Thanks for any help!!

Perennial Rye grass is better than annual rye. Its true it will be up in a few days. The only problem is with the heat. I would suggest you use it as a temporary fix and plant something more to your climate.

Sod is the answer. Yes, grass helps with erosion. Find a good grass for your area.
