Zoysia sod with other grass breakthrough

I live in VA and hate this Zoysia lawn. It was here when we bought the house. I have performed all the fertilizing Spring, fall and winter as I thought I was suppose to. Now we have patches of green grass growing up between the Zoysia sod that has been in place for over 2 yrs. I had a professional come look at it and he said I was stuck with the breakthrough grass. All the fertilizing did was make the bad grass grow! My expensive “plush Zoysia” is still dormaint Yellow !! Short of hand pulling up the 100’s of green patches in my yellow lawn, are there any other options to rid myself of the green grass?? If not, how hard would it be to pull up the Zoysia since it is sod???
