Emerald zoysia sod layed 1 year (transistion zone). Did not survive 2000-01 first winter. Looking for data/research/help on causal factors and recovery methods. Thanx.

Emerald zoysia is reported to be a cold hardy cultivar. Where are you and how cold did it get last winter?

I had the same exact issue. The layer of the sod is blaming my lawn service for laying down too much pre-emergent weed control and my lawn service is blaming they sod layer for poor topsoil conditions. Flustered. If anyone finds a solution, notify me: MPrice at Mobilesoft . com

I have the same problem with a very large spot approx. 5′ x 20′ in the center of my yard….lawn service says it is because I have “emerald zoysia” instead of “Z52″….the Z52 would not turn brown and appear to be dead.

Here in Bama this spring zoysia has been getting eat up with take-all patch. It looks dead.

Take a sample to your local county extension agent and he should be able to get you answers to your problem.

What is a take-all patch?

It is rare for Emerald zoysia to winterkill, but that’s the risk you run when you use a warm season grass in the trans. zone.
You should only be using Meyer Zoysia, which is rated to -30 below zero.
I hope this helps.
