Tried your ideal of cutting out both ends of a soup can and filling with water in area ajacent to affected area. No critters or snipe surfaced. One more piece of info. The same problem has also appeared in most of the “EL TORO” zoyzia as well. The grass dies right down to the roots but in a large area there will be some green sprigs also.

Any AI chemical that ends in “thrin” will be a synthetic pyrethroid(derived from the crysanthemum plant) and will do the job for you. Deltamethrin will clean out most insects/spiders/ants for a period of time depending on how you apply it. Actually cockroaches are the only critter that I know of which are resistant to the pyrethroids at this time.
