I’ve read about a method of installing sod in which gaps are left. Size of gaps? Then the zoysia spears out over the next two years.

This is my back yard so temporary looks isn’t that important. This sod is pricey and I’d like to maxamize the sq/ft per dollar.

If leaving gaps what size? What level should the soil be in the gaps?Should any grass seed be used in he gaps? If so what type to use and/or what type should be avoided?

It’s late in the year and I’ve got about 4-6 weeks of decent weather and about 10weeks before first frost. What type of fertilizer is safe?

Middle Georgia in the top of zone 9. High sun levels. Clay type soils top layers will be Harley raked.

I have seen a neighbor do this by laying strips of sod with six inch gaps between them. I think you could expect the gaps to be filled in 2 years. They filled the gaps with sand. I think El Toro will spread even faster.

You could also try plugging with a bulb planter.

I’m not sure why you would want to seed. Seed with what? Fescue? Fescue will just be a pain to get out of your zoysia later on. Zenith? Zenith is tough to grow from seed.

I probably will plug some. But this is 100% a self diy. I’ve got 6 pallet to lay down asap. It is a three day weekend.

How much sand did your neighbor fill in with?

I will be laying the sod on some Harley raked soil and then roll a heavy roller across it. So it should be settled down.
