What Does My Bermuda Need?
EricR – posted 30 May 2005 06:13
Simply stated, my Bermuda is green and lush anywhere my old beagle urinates. Am new to the south, and new to Bermuda grass, and am amazed to see how the lawn looks “better” where ever my dog pees.
To date, have only applied Scott lawn care products to my turf. Also suspect that the builders where a bit stingy in putting down much topsoil before placing the Bermuda. A couple small section of the lawn have a hard time sustaining the Bermuda as it appears that there’s insufficient topsoil.
But again, am I to gain an understanding of what to treat my lawn with by the “positive” effects of dog urine?
Thank you

Thanks for the link Bill.
Lawn care was so simple when I lived in Southern New England. I had a “best on block” with my Heinz 57 variety of grasses. All I did was apply a Scott’s treatment every seven weeks or so.
I am a bit envious of the folks around here who have likely hired a professional for the care of their Bermuda grass.

That is a very nice link!
I would suggest however, that you take a look at information on maintaining the microbial activity of your underlying soil. Conventional fertilizer applications are well known as toxins for soil microbial activity when used in concentrations high enough to produce significant effects on the plant’s growth. …Rebuilding your microbial balance in the soil will result in healthy plants while using much less conventional fertilizer, and your plants will also build a natural immunity to many of the pests and diseases common to conventional lawns.
