I need information about Thatching my lawn. When is the best time to do it and is it easy to do yourself or should I hire someone.

My thoughts:Lots of work even if you have a small yard. Depending on where you live, now is probably a good time to do the deed. Grass needs to be growing well, but I don’t think you want to do it in mid-summer with high temps and humidity. UF has “how to” instructions at: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/LH029

ljkelly, Thatching my favorite well not really. Well now would be a good time to thatch but only if you turf in not stressed in any way. Many of us in Florida are facing some real drought issues and short of leaving turf alone right now is about best(about). In the summer months there will be even more thatch to remove and you job will double. Be prepared to remove a few pickup loads even on a small turf area. This is a job I gladly pay to have done but than again some people like to paint! That’s another story.
