Overseeding

I am planing to overseed my front lawn this fall. I am going to use a lawn solutions slit seeder. My llawn is very thick will this hinder the new seed from growing?

There are a lot of variable to look at. Have you areated the turf recently, what type of grass is it? If the turf is very thick I think the slit seeder will work very hard working through the very thick lawn as you mention, which makes me wonder, why are you over seeding if the lawn is so thick in the first place. You can accomplish the same thing and also receive the the benefit of aerobic activity with the core areation. If you mow your lawn short, areate the heck out of it and then overseed with a spreader and then drag or rake the cores into the turf. Not knowing what type of turf you have now or your location kind of makes it a little difficult.
