Name this bug?

I have bunches of bugs (many flying in tandem, locked up in buggy love) swarming in my lawn when I mow, which I have not been able to identify. They are pitch black, 1/4″ long, very slender, with a reddish spot/body segment just below their proportionately tiny heads (not spittle bugs). Any guesses?

lovebugs. they dont hurt anything except the paint on your car when you run into them. they have some kind of acid that will pit your finish.
