how much dirt?

What would be the formula to figure, how much dirt would it take to fill and level out an area approximately: 550sq ft x 6in deep. Thank You…..

if you take the sq.ft. x 6″ = 3300 divide by 324 will give you 10.1 cubic yards.

That’s how I came up with 12 cubic yard for my backyard.

I always use cubic feet divided by 27 (sq.ft in a yard). In this case it was 550 x .5(6″is one half foot)/27 = 10.18 yards.

I always get a little extra for settling. Believe it or not but your buying alot of air when you buy soil.

I use http://yardscut.com/how-much-dirt.htm for cubic yard conversion and measurements. It gives answers in cubic yards.

The simple answer is length x width x depth. Just remember to convert the measurements to the same quantities, ie inches, feet, meters . . .
