golf course disease

Greens thawed out recently, and there is big black patches on the green. Is this fungus, algae, i dont know?

Jacob, I realize you posted this some time ago, but could you please give us some more information? How big are (were) the patches? Are they round or irregular? And what type of turfgrass do you have? Thanks, Phil
