Backyard tolerant for Dogs

I live in midwest OH and am beginning to tear down the trees in my back yard and am looking for a type of grass that is tolerant to a 90 pound high energy dog, as well as high shade. Any ideas? Also, what is the best maintenance for the grass once planted? Should I use seed or sod? How long does the dog have to stay off that general area before his damage is irreversible?
Thanks for the help.

sounds like the shade is the problem, not the dog. suggest pruning or rethinking the area as a landscape area. i had a 130 pound german shepherd and a 100 pound golden retriever in a 2000 sq. ft. area with fescue- follow normal, good maintenance and it should work as long as you have enough light- you’ll need around 5-6 hours a day of light- just go for the seed- sod too expensive in your low maintenance situation.

Shade is definitely the problem right now, but most of the trees will be coming down this week. There should be 5-6 hours after that. But help me out, what exactly is normal, good maintenance on some fescue, assuming fescue is the best for my situation and area.
thanks
