First I haven’t done a soil test on my yard. It is currently filled with broadleaf weeds which I have been able to get rid in the past. I also have a few spots of crabgrass and dallisgrass which I’ll spot treat. Question is do I spray a herbicide to kill the broad leaf weeds and then fertilize? The fertilizer I bought says it’s a 15-15-15 and contains 3% iron and 3% sulfer which is suppose to be good for Texas turfs. Should I stick to a higher N2 fertilzer? The grass still appears to be dormant, should I start fertilizing?

One of the main questions is can you use Amine 4-2-4D on bermuda? Can it be used for residential properties? HOw do you mix it for 2gallon sprayer?

Any ideas would be appreciated and welcomed to be emailed to me. I’d rather try fix my yard than have my wife hire someone. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at these two sites.

if you’ve got bermuda in texas it’s ok to use 24d on the broadleafs. i doubt you’re seeing dallisgrass yet, but would like to see some pics, if possible. the reason for the high sulfur and iron fert. is because of the high ph of the soils in tx., there’s nothing wrong with your plan, but you may not need as much of the other 2 numbers on the bag of fert. please soil test…

Thanks for the advice guys. I’m in the process of trying to find out how to do a soil test. I was think about ordering one from a site saw. I just figured I could use this type of fertilizer since it was recommended for texas turfs.

Ted is there a way to post pics on this site? Maybe embarrassing for people to see my yard but I do need the help.

yeah, you send the pics into the editor , i believe, then he posts them. you can just dig up some turf samples ( with dirt) and send them to a county ag agent, or if you’re around a big city, take them to a Lesco Service Center.

just mix it up according to label directions into a pump sprayer, spray the weed to the point of runoff and you’re set. remember, homeowner products aren’t as strong as pro products. so don’t expect miracles. i’ve sprayed lawns where you do the backyard first and while you were spraying the front yard you could see the weeds dying in the backyard!
