Bermuda Spring Work

Is it necesary to cut back and dethatch bermuda before spring green-up? Or is a cut back all that is needed? I live in Atlanta Ga. I purchased a Tru-Cut reel mower and want to top dress as well early sping any helpful ideas/tips are appreciated.

no you don’t have to cut it back- i think you’re a little premature given your temps.

I’ll wait till April but I was wondering if I need to cut back & dethatch or is a cut back sufficient.

Everything you see in your bermuda that is now brown is not going to get green in the spring, that will come from new growth. I take my 419 and GN down to 5/16ths this time of the year, catch it and dispose of it. When the spring green up begins I move up to 7/16ths. I think that by cutting it low when dormant I get better exposure to the sun early on. Also, having it that short makes it a lot easier to fill in some low spots, if present, with sand to level it up.
