What’s your advice on using summer gaurd on an SC fescue lawn? I used the Lesco 18-24-12 in early spring and it was great, but now having issues of browning areas that are usually my best. The suspect areas popped up over just a few days. I am thinking fungus problems with all the rain we’re having, but I can’t rule out grubs and such either. I think the summer gaurd is a slow release 28-3-8. I had planned on playing it safe and not fertilizing until fall, but this is alarming. Thanks

it certainly sounds like brown patch fungus- perfect setting for this disease- you definitely would not want to fertilize now- the nitrogen causes the fungus!!! you should be fertilizing heavy in the fall – not the spring. Prostar would be your fungicide- but it doesn’t work as a curative- only a preventative. It’s only available as a professional product however. cut back on the water, mow tall, and waiting until the fall for more fertilizing. don’t forget to soil test- you may be way off on potassium, lime, etc. grubs not a big issue on tall fescue.
