What is a good fertilizer for st augustine grass and how do you keep the weeds out?

Clemson Ext. Service told me 6 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. 15-0-15 twice a year. The closest I found is Lesco 18-0-18. I apply after Spring greenup and just before August 15. Weeds, I don’t know. I plan to use some kind of pre-emergent Fall and Spring.

Checkout University of Georgia advice on turfgrasses at http://www.ces.uga.edu/pubcd/b773-w.html#Warm Season Grasses

Current thinking from University of Florida mirrors what “Bill_SC” suggested for fertilizing St Augustine; i.e.,equal parts Nitrogen and Potassium (1 pound of each per 1000 square feet) Lowes and some other outlets are marketing 15-0-15 as Centipede fertilizer, but obviously you can use it on St Augustine.
