Spring arrived and the bermuda grass came back to life. Everything was great. It rained about every third day and the grass was growing fast. Then the rain stopped for a couple of days and the tips of the grass turned red. Also, the grass just seemed to stop growing. Maybe its my imagination, but I don’t think so. At least it’s not dying (yet). But why did the tips turn red, and what can or should I do to help it out. I am located in north Georgia, soil is pretty compact, and grass is one-year-old sod. Didn’t have a very good year (planted at inappropriate time of year)

I live in south Atlanta and I experienced the same thing. I was told it came from the late frost we had that sent the bermuda into shock. I’m thinking maybe I fertilzed to early. Next year I will wait but who would expect near freezing temps during the last part of April…

I guess that makes sence. It did get pretty cold a couple of weeks back. I guess I will just have to wait and see if it gets better.

Would fertilizing it help it recover?

I am no expert by far…but since the grass was just in shock and not dead, I didn’t do anything but cut the grass down to just under an inch. Which took care of the red tips and used a little IRONITE to give it a shot of micro-nutrients since I am sitting on top of this red clay. So far the red tips are gone and my lawn is getting greener by the day…
