I live in the northeast (philadelphia area) and am planning to overseed my newer lawn in Sept with a rye/bluegrass/creeping red fescue mixture of my own making. However, my soil may still need a little more lime (waiting for test results). If it needs it, should I lime now in the hot days of august or lime in sept during the seeing? Any harm to doing it either way? I assumed I needed to get the lime into the soil ahead of time to help the pH but it’s hot out now….will that hurt anything?

Fish, I would wait to see the results of your soil tests. If only a small amount of lime is needed I would wait until the fall or later. Winter and early spring are the best times to Lime because the freeze/thaw action of the ground gets the lime deeper into the soil. If your soil is way, way off, you may need to do something now. But chances are, if you have a lawn now, you can grow turf in the soil you have. Also remember that all limes are not created equal. Be careful to use the correct lime for your soils needs. Dolomitic lime is high in Magnesium, Hi-cal lime is rich in Calcium. Use which ever your soil tests show you are lacking.
BTW, The seed mixture sounds like a good one, any ideas on varieties of the Blue and Rye?
