Zoysia-poor greening-need help
ndibona – posted 16 May 2004 05:54
This is the second season in our new house with Zoysia. I don’t know what variety, but that is was very nice the first year. Late last growing seasons a few patches appeared, now there are more. The grass took a long time to green and there are significant areas that are still not green even in the front yard where morning sun is ample. We live in SC and the weather is now quite warm. To make matters worse TopTurf has serviced the lawn during this time. Can anyone suggest how to get a handle on re-establishing an even green turf, given this problem? Thanks.

What is your fertilization schedule? Maybe you are lacking. Get a soil test to confirm what you have, nutrient wise, and tailor your fertilizer program around those results. Remember that zoysia has a tough time greening up early when not fertlized. Find the link to the zoysia page that fallon222 posted. It is chock full of great info.
Good Luck…..

outside of the possible fertilization issues, i would doubt there would be anything your lawn care company might have done to the lawn. everything that happens to a lawn is always the lawn guys fault….I had a customer call up one time and yell at me for dead spots in his zoysia. i was really puzzled at this so i went to the property and questioned his son until he told me his dad had been spraying roundup!!!!

Is it just a lighter shade of green? Have you tried iron?

I am pretty sure TopTurf did an application of iron a couple of months ago?? The green is pretty uniform. It is just that the areas that are not green are brownish and a significant amount of area is not green. What do you think?
