What grass to plant in Northern Adirondacks?

my husband is getting very frustrated with bare patches in the lawn. He isn’t worried about it looking like a golf course, just wants coverage. After going thru some of the posts, I don’t think we want zoysia or Canada green. What is there that will grow quickly in this area?
