What is this ugly critter?

I’ve found a few of them in my yard, just on the surface of the soil under the thatch. I started noticing some white foam under the grass then found the cause. I’ve got a fescue/bermuda lawn in Winston-Salem, NC.

Don’t know, could it be a grub. you may want to look up grub worms and see if they have a pic.

You might also check more in depth into “spittle bugs”. The foamy mass might indicate them.
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
