Weeds in Bermuda Grass

I have a question concerning our lawn that has recently been planted. Weplanted small sod plugs of bermuda grass in a very large area. We havebeen watering every day to ensure the roots a chance to dig in. Beforeplanting, we made sure that all the weeds had been killed. Then we tilledup the ground and planted. Several weeks after planting and watering, weeds have popped up and begun to spead thickly and rapidly. It isdifficult to even see the bermuda plugs anymore. We are going to tryhoeing inbetween each row but we are doubtful that this will help becausethe weeds will just come back. We know that bermuda is known as being astrong and good grower but we fear the weeds will choke it out. Do youhave any advice?

I assume you used round up to kill the weeds that were visible? Once you tilled the soil you brought to the surface 1 million more weed seeds to germinate. Round up is not a pre-emergemce. You installed vegitative plugs for bermuda establishment. your best bet would of been to throw down a pre emergence after you planted the plugs.

Thats right Grassyguy and remember after the pre emergent wait 3 weeks or depending on what your pre emergent states for establishment

You dont have to wait anytime as long as you establish your turf vegatatively. Pre-emergence is pre-emergence it wont harm actively growing plants. It creates a vapor barrier that lasts 12 to 14 weeks.(blocking seed germination) and if you go digging in the soil 3 weeks after you put it down you can kiss the vapor barrier good bye.
