weed grass

I just installed a new lawn from seed. A different kind of grass is coming up here and there. This grass has yellowish green brawder leaves. It sprawls out on thicket stems. It seeds appear on stems that are about 2 to 3 inches long. The cluster of seed is about 1/2″ to about 3/4″.
What kind of weed is this?
Is there a resource that shows pictures of different weed grasses?

There’s two I’ve found that are okay. I am still looking however. One is from Australia so it may not include the grass you are searching for (although it has full colour photos). The second one lists every type of grass known to man by the looks of it – with sketches rather than photos. Unfortunately you have to know the scientific name of the grass (no thumbnails available).
If I find anything else I’ll reply again.

Go to Weedalert.com. This is an excellent source for weeds. Annual Grasses, Perennial Grasses, Annual Broadleaves, and Perennial Broadleaves. I am a student at Iowa State University and students here use this as a source a lot of the time. I would also get the list of different types of seeds that were in the bag that you used for seeding. A lot of time seeds aren’t always what they seem to be. They can have of to 85-90% of the main cultivar of grass, but 10% of other grasses, and weeds in them. I’d check that over, then look up those other grasses and weeds in your seed, and try to i.d. them in a book or on this website. GOOD LUCK!
