verticut vs dethatch

can you get one machine for both and use different blades? if you do one do you need to do the other? and what would a lawn care package consist of e.i. cut grass string trim airation fertilization ect. ect. i hope i have posted in the right place. thanks T

The difference between verticut and dethatch is depth, in my opinion. I consider dethatching to be deep and actually into the soil. Verticutting is shallower and only meant to cut the stolons and such. If you need to dethatch, do it and you will be verticutting at the same time. If you need to verticut, do it but you will be disturbing little of the soil surface. Which, at times, is good. Like when you are worried about disturbing your crabgrass preemergence.
As for a program. I would go ala carte. The basics should be mowing, edging and weed eating. All other things should be based on your lawns needs, not the needs of the service company. Come up with a good program. If you are a learner let the company tell you the first year or two and then you decide if it’s appropriate based on your lawns appearance. Keep a journal to help you remember….
