URGENT

hi, i was supposed to take care of a friends lawn while he was on vacation, mainly watering, well i was irresponsible and i forgot, last night i remembered what he told me and i drove to his place only to see the 80% of the lawn was ‘burnt out’.
after cursing several times (my friend took very good care of his lawn)I took a closer look, At closer examination, I noticed that some of the blades and the most of the roots are somewhat faded green, has the grass gone dormant? i gave the turf a very good watering, and left, was that the best move? does dormacy only happen in the winter? how long does it take for the turf to become active again?
anyway, my friend comes back in two days, whats the best plan of action here?

moodie, whatever the outcome, your first responsibilty is to inform your friend of the new circumstances.
There is nothing that you can do or hope to occur in two days that will make any difference.
However, it is possible though not certain the lawn will be okay again in a few weeks.
Also, cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass normally go through summer dormancy and attempts to maintain them lush in the summer may not be successful, depending on the night temperatures.
I don’t know what species of turfgrass is in the lawn, I don’t know how many days you did not water, and other factors. But your friend may rightfully be angry with you, not because you may have killed the lawn, but because you did not do what you said.
