topdressing emerald zoysia and bermuda

I live in Atlanta, Georgia and have had emerald zoysia and bermuda for ten years in my yard.

1. What is the maximum amount of sand I can put on my two grasses for topdressing purposes?

2. Do I need to cut the grass real short before topdressing?

3. Is aeration necessary?

4. Is it too late to topdress? It is July.

Thank you for your help. I want my zoysia in my partially shaded backyard to get thick and healthier!
