My neighbor, the old man next door (and successful turf grower) says that the only way to rid your yard of torpedo grass is to move.
I find that if I block off a section of my yard, kill off the torpedo grass with 2 or three applications of round up, then replug the area with St. Augustine, I get good results.
Now, I am not saying that I have effectively killed the torpedo grass (or that my neighbor doesnt laugh at my efforts), but I am saying that I get some good positive results.
You’d have to look really carefully to find much torpedo grass in an area that I have worked with.
It just takes time and effort.

I have a similar problem with torpedo grass in our neighborhood. It seems to be in almost everyone’s lawn. When we first moved to our home we killed the entire lawn with multiple applications of round-up over several months and finally replanted. Now I am seeing some new colonies of torpedo grass in our front lawn. Does anyone know and easier and less expensive method method of dealing with tordeo?

Drive 75 herbicide
The only weed able to penetrate my zoysia lawn. It was recommended to do three treatments, spread over six weeks. Some signs of yellowing of only the torpedo after first application. Two more applications to go. The company is BASF.

Did the Drive 75 herbicide kill the torpedo grass? Do you know if it will work in St Augustine grass in North Florida?
