Tifway vs Tifway II

Does anyone here have knowledge on Tifway II? According to a local sod farm, Tifway II is an improved variant of Tifway. Interestingly, only one sod farm carries both Tifway and Tifway II. All other sod farms have only Tifway. I wonder why Tifway II is not as popular as Tifway?

Tifway is much more of a known commodity, and has a proven track record, so although Tifway 2 is good in its own right, it came along many years after Tifway was released, and never gained the same popularity. There is really no need to use Tifway 2, unless you need to mow at fairway height. Tifway has more of an upright growth habit, and many times looks scalped at lower cutting heights. Tifway 2 can be mowed as low as 3/8″.
