Tiff Grass

I built a house last summer and had Tiff grass put down, as did my neighbor. I have quite a bit of nutsedge and my neighbor has just a little. I have tried roundup, but it seems that it kills one and another pops up right next to it. We live in central Texas and the grass is just starting to green ever so slightly. What product should I use to get rid of the nutsedge and should I scalp the turf before it really greens up? I really don’t know anything about taking care of this stuff as I grew up with St. Augustine. I choose the tiff because of the look and because I have 2 active dogs that detroyed a St. Augustine yard. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

roundup doesn’t work on nutsedge because of the oily, waxy coating. use image. also roundup could seriously damage your bermuda. remember, you don’t get rid of the nutsedge, but after you spray it, it will only grow back to the point of your most recent lawn cutting, therefore it blends in better. now there will be people on this post that recommend the roundup, but it will only burn it, not kill it, and you still have the problem of killing the bermuda. use image.

Don’t use round up! You can spray it forever and it won’t get rid of nutsedge. You can use a combination of MSMA (crabgrass killer) and whatever your local garden center has for specific nutsedge control. The two chemicals can be mixed together for a devastating blow to nutsedge! It may however take several applications…..spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart starting in April and ending September.

i would stick to professional products. anything the homeowner can buy generally won’t work. hire a chemical lawn care company to do it. be careful to follow the label when applying products- you’re generally not supposed to mix products out of the bottle. remember you have an expensive sodded lawn!!!! instead, of spraying chems several times, just spray the image once, if you can buy it…..
