st. augustine burnt

I just bought a house just north of fort worth, tx and it was sodded sometime in september or october. I moved in in January, and the sprinkler system was off, so I’m assuming that there wasn’t any water put on the sod after it was layed down. There are lots of brown, but the only places seeming to turn green at all are where there was so much water when I moved in that the ground has a light green moldy looking dust on it. I have a female dog and am debating whether to switch to a bermuda or try to nurse this lawn back. I live in a typical sub division where sunlight is so-so between houses, but the front and back have pretty decent coverage most of the day. Any suggestions? Also, if I decide to switch to bermuda, can I just seed it and wait as the bermuda takes over?
