St Augustine

I live in VA Beach and have gotten some St Augustine plugs from a family member’s yard. They are doing great and I want to get the ball rolling without digging up too much of my family’s yard. Where can I find St Augustine seed? It is not sold in this area?

no. you’ll want to use plugs or sod.

Just to clarify, as far as I know you can not buy St Augistine seed, doesn’t exist.

I live in So.Ca & bought st.Augustine seed from my local Home Depot.Seeded, fertilized and within about nine months had st.Augustine sprouting in different corners of my yard.Unfortunately not in the whole yard!Contrary to what i’ve read here it worked for me.Now my only problem is getting it to spread to the “dead zones” quickly so that my yard looks even & beautiful.

I agree with Roskilan – I have never heard of St Augustine seed. Are you sure you did not get bermuda or bahia seed?

I was told St Augustine does not produce seeds, it can only be cultivated live. Perhaps whoever told me is wrong. I have seen Zoysia seed.

So after nine months, small areas of your yard had sprouted with the St. Augustine seed your purchased. That sounds like a success story to me for sure. More likely that weed seeds blew into your yard.
Some varieties of SA produce seed occasionally, but it is always sterile.

Well i don’t know what to say guys!!!I’m certainly not an expert on this, but i can only tell you what i did.My only other explanation -The yard already had st.augustine in it & came back?
Hell,i don’t care because the st.augustine looks beautiful & it’s spreading(slow but it’s spreading.)
