St Augustine

About 2 1/2 months ago we sodded our front yard with St. Augustine. Then we had puppy problems…his favorite place to go was on the new lawn. We began to see brown spots appear. Our daughters dog has gone home and there has been no pet urine on it in weeks but the brown patches are getting bigger by the day. I have looked over other posts and see that it may be anything from insects to the salts in the urine. The brown spots did not appear so dramatic until we started getting daily rains. What can we do to salvage it? Should we take up the dead sod sheets? Should we try Miracle Gro or Scott’s Turf Builder. We have never had grass in this area before and so hoped we could have a lush green lawn. Thanks for your help
