My experience is that its too late in the seaon now to be putting out herbicides. For this year, your likely to have to just pull the weeds, and start with a good regimented fertilizer (like Bonus S) in the fall and early spring.

Spectracide from wally world did it for me, although it may be too hot for that now. But it will depend on where you live. also good ferts will help shade out out some smaller patches of weeds.

one more thing, once the weeds start to brown or even shade towards brown, take a heavy rake and maually debride the weeds out. dont worry if it leaves a bare spot cause your st augustine will soon grow runners into it.

I agree with Will, it is probably too late to spray weedkillers on your lawn. Just manually go around pulling as much as you can by the root. I have been getting them in my 2 month old lawn lately, and it is very simple to grab them by the roots because they are not heavily dug in. Do this every 3 days or so and you’ll notice less and less new growth of weeds. Next spring, if you notice a big weed comeback (not that kind hehe), then spray it.

SKrip,
If you keep your weeds well pulled and your lawn healthy, but next Spring your St. Augustine will likely be so dang thick that your weed problem will be alot less than you could imagine right now.
Remember, St. Augustine grows pretty much year round in the proper climate. It does slow down, but it keeps growing. I’ve noticed alot of undergrowth of St. Augustine in the winter months, and alot of vertical growth in the warmer months.
Amazing how this grass takes over with just a little proper care and patience.
