Purple fungus is taking over my yard!

I noticed brown spots on my lawn for weeks now and I’ve heard dog urine can cause this, but I have 3 tiny Chihuahua’s and the spots are bigger than they are. Just today I noticed purple fungus all over the blades of grass in my yard. It seems like it grows in circuilar patches. The brown spots are also circuilar. Can anyone tell me what this is? Is this purple fungus harmful to pets? What can I do about it without harming my dogs?
