Pumps in the landscape: Staying alive during drought
seed – posted 19 March 2001 07:01
Within days, southern Florida will be under Phase III water use restrictions. Will the landscape survive?
Please use this little calculator: https://turfgrass.com/pumping/ to determine how much of your landscape you can keep growing. You must know your pump’s horsepower and the discharge pressure.
Pumping is a simple matter of physics. The pumping volume is equal to the work done by a pump (horsepower X efficiency) divided by the pressure (“total dynamic head”). Multiply the volume by however many hours the water management district allows you to irrigate, and spread that over an area deep enough to satisfy the needs of the turf. And that’s how much of your landscape is going stay healthy.
The other half of coping with drought is whether your irrigation system is tuned for efficient distribution http://c-11.org/restrictions/
