problems with moss (umm, i think)

I live in northwest tennessee. I have a lawn in full sun with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5 throughout. The soil has alot of clay in it and is very compact although i aerated it recently. The problem is I have patches of moss throughout the lawn. Most people tell me it can’t be moss since it grows in full sun, and the soil pH is only mildly acidic. This stuff looks like regular moss but has gold looking sprouts with seed heads after a long drought. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to kill it? thanks

you’re way low on the ph. moss has to do with low ph and poor air circulation, although i’m not sure it’s moss….post a pic

moss does not require poor air circ. and shade, we have moss right now on our 7th green and it gets full sun 10 hours a day with plenty of air circulation. Try raising your pH to around 7 by liming, in the meantime, mix a little dawn dish soap with some water, not too much, and spray it over the moss. This will get rid of most of it, but it is likely to come back eventually.
