plugging zoysia over bermuda

I currently have bermuda and has been thinning over the years due to lack of sun. I was told to try zoysia. One company told me I could plug Meyer Zoysia in the existing bermuda and in 2-3 years the zoysia will choke out the bermuda. Is this true? If not, what is a better alternative to sodding the entire yard (too expensive)?

If you don’t mind a bermuda/zoysia mixed yard then plugging zoysia will work fine. If you want zoysia then you need to kill the bermuda with roundup then plug the zoysia.
Depends upon where you live. In most areas plugging on 4″ centers gets yard during one summer. Many southern areas 6″ centers will work.
