I bought a new house in january. It seems that the previous owners had overseeded with winter rye. Now that it is summer I have st. augustine with a few patches of bermuda. The biggest problem I have is that I have a sidewalk running along the street with a 3 foot section of grass running along the street. That area is infested with a broad leaf weed that grow out of control. this is hardly any grass in this area just weeds. How do i get rid of the weeds and bring back the grass. Why is this area so bad. I am happy with the rest of my lawn except this area.

You should use Scotts W/ Atrizine. This is an excellent fertilizer for St Augustine/Floritam grasses. I use it frequently on my lawn and it makes my st. augustine explode! Have you identified the broad leaf weed/grass you have found? Atrazine is usually safe only for St. Augustine grasses and helps to combat the intruders. I have NO complaints with Scotts W/ Atrazine. I mow, I fertilize and then I water it in. You should see results withing a few days or so. Do you have carpet grass invading your St. augustine also? Thanx, Scott P.S.>> Is that area wetter than the rest? Weeds love wet areas.
