planting st augustine

my husband says I cannot fill in the empty spots in our yard until spring, I think I can plant st. augustine sod in winter with success. who is correct.

Where I live here in Bama all turf is sleeping for the winter. I would delay plugging until spring when temp is above 80. once soil temp reaches 50 warm season turf will not grow. It will simply shut down until it gets warmer.

I think it really depends on your location. The sod companies here in Panama City, FL are still going strong (with St. Augustine). As I know it, St. Augustine is an Evergreen grass that doesnt go dormant, but winterkills at around 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Obviously the “best” time is Spring and Summer, so as an alternative to spending lots of money on sod, you plant some plugs to see how they do?
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
