Overseeding St. Augustine

Is it ok to overseed St. Augustine with annual ryegrass? I have asked several people in my area of southeastern North Carolina and have gotten mixed responses. Thanks.

I do it in NW Florida and feel that it helps (with its deep root system) the St Augustine. I certainly haven’t seen any ‘damage’ becuase of the overseeding.

yeah it’s fine- alot of higher end lawns in the south do it every year. you’re not going to damage it!

Of course your garden gasoline budget needs to double for the year with year round mowing.

I have approximately 1.3 million square feet of grass in NW Florida which will be over seeded with rye in the next two weeks. There will be no harm.
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
