Over fertilized Lawn

I recently overfertilized my one year old lawn by mistake.It has turned from dark green to what I call highlighter yellow. Is my lawn doomed or do I just nbeed to water the heck out of it ??? Will the color come back on it`s own or do should I plan on tearing it up and replanting.

kennyg,What type of lawn do you have and where are you located? What is your watering habits? And if you are Kenny G, why do you maintain your own lawn? Just kidding…..anyway, If your lawn has’nt turned white and straw colored yet watering alot may help flush the extra nutrients. But be warned that overwatering+fertilizer=disease if you are not careful.

Good luck and wait it out till cooler temps come. Hold off on any Herbicides and sit back and wait.

kennyg,You have a good mixture of turf there and both are somewhat drought tolerant. If it is dry I would continue to water and keep the turf mowed a little higher than usual. 3″ would be nice. Also, look into the possibility of giving the lawn a few minutes in the early afternoon on those really hot days. We call it syringing in the golf business. It keeps the stomates (sweat glands in plants) open so that the turf doen’t shut off its water supply from the ground. Its stays cooler and therefore grows better in the heat.
