We have sandy soil (or should I say soily sand?). Our lawn is bad. What could a person do up here in Connecticut to make it look temporarily respectible for selling the house? (I will tell the buyer we have a tough time keeping a nice lawn)

you could do a quick seeding job. bring alot of curb appeal.

Overseed now with Ryegrass(either perennial or annual)and keep watered throughout the spring and into the summer. Weeds will be a problem but contract with a local lawn service and explain your situation. They will be able to help with the weeds without spending big $$$.
Good Luck……

Go to your local camping supply store and buy a couple of rolls of that green grass carpet and cover your yard>
Just kidding.
Money has a lot to do with it If the house is worth sinking the money in the lawn for the new owner find some one to sod the yard if that isnt feasible then Do a quick over seeding with an annual rye grass and MAKE ALL OF YOUR SHRUB BEDS AND ANY NATURAL AREAS STAND OUT.
And the more you tell a prospective homebuyer about the trouble you are having with your yard, electrcity, roof etc the less likely you will sell it to them.
IF THEY DONT ASK DONT TELL

I bought my house from some one who said the well was deep.
Well it was deep and 2 weeks later that is what I had a deep empty hole.
