New Fescue Sod

We’re in N. Ga. mid 80’s during the day. We just installed new fescue sod (18 pallets)at our new home. After the install we watered for about two hours then our well ran dry. The next day we called our pool man and he explained the the little amount of chlorine in the pool is about equal to ciy water this time of year. so the evening after the install we got a pump and began running the sprinklers. the grass was starting to turn light brownish grey in some areas the sod has returnd to nice green color and others are still brownish with a little green. Should we water the light areas more than the green? what should our water shedule be?

you’re going to have to be careful on several fronts. First, you might want to do a quick test on the pool water- you may be causing some harm to the grass, although you should be ok. Second, This late in the season is tough to plant sod in your market- lots of fungus and heat stress coming your way quick! do a soil test to see if any nutrients are missing, particularly potassium. Third, you need to water only during the morning hours- do not let the grass remain wet during the evening- you’re just around the corner from brown patch fungus season- might want to perform a few fungicide treatments as a preventative, then cut back on your watering, particularly if you start having rainfall. it’s a dicey sitaution- you need to water lightly and frequently to establish the sod, but you don’t want to leave the soil wet during the evening.
