Laying Sod

I live in Orlando, Florida. I purchased a pallet of St. Augustine FLoritan Sod on Saturday March 1st. I was unable to plant it until Wednesday March 5th. Many of the pieces turned yellow and brown from sitting on top of each other for 4 days. Will the sod recover? Is there anything I can do to help it along?

You’re probably OK. Keep root zone moist until roots grow into the soil. Then slack off watering to an as needed basis!

I am planting Emerald Zyosia around a 100×60 covered pavilion. I began laying sod on Thursday Aug 4 and finished Friday Aug 5th. I am constantly watering the sod and over the weekend this area got a rain-storm. My zyosia is already turning brown. What do I do?

Check to see that there is good contact between sod and soil. If it doesn’t look like almost 100% contact, rent a roller and go over the sod with a couple hundred pounds.

I am planting bermuda on my soccer playing fields. Do you think its a good idea to plant emerald zyosia in the swell between to two playing fields? Since zyosia is such a durable grass it should with stand the flow of water?

I would go with bermuda. They recover faster.
Emerald isn’t one of the better variety as far as wear tolerance according to NTEP website.
What made you want to go with emerald grass between bermuda? Bermuda and emerald might blend or bermuda might take over. Bermuda is fast spreader! i should know. i’m growing zenith in small enclosed area as an experiment and apparently one stray bermuda grew over a foot long before I even noticed. Zenith grasses are starting to send out runners (I think…) I’ve been growing them for 5-6 weeks so you can see how quick bermuda can spread. It used to be bermuda grasses that i got rid of to prep for zenith. i’d say it’s a success considering what I had to worry about like weeds and bermuda some how coming back and taking over but it wasn’t even a problem for me.
