How to get it green?

Had Celebration Bermuda for about 1 year now. It grows in nice and green, but whenever I cut it there is nothing but brown grass underneath. So every time I cut my lawn it looks good height wise but terrible in color. Then it grows and looks great in color but in need of cutting again. How can I get the grass green at the base of the cut. thanks.

How tall do you let it get before you cut it and how much do you remove in one pass?

I cut it about once a week. I cut it to about 1″. BTW, I’ve varied the cut from time to time to see if it might help but no change—it always cuts down to brown.

Are your blades sharp. If you are using a rotary mower, one inch is kind of low for a rotary.

Blades are about 4 months old and it’s a reel mower that I’m using.

It is probally your mowing height. Might consider mowing more frequently. If problem keeps occuring maybe a possible thatch problem causing the mower to sink as it mows and scalping the grass. Remember Bermuda is a heavy thatch producer you have to watch it over time.

I agree, mow it more frequent so the sun can hit the base. collect the clippings. Hit it once a month with 34-0-0 to green it up. assuming you have not applied a heavy dose of complete fert already.
