I’m trying to help my parents with their lawn. They have NEVER done anything to it. I honestly don’t think there is a single blade of grass anywhere in their yard. It is all weeds! Where do I start? What do I do? Please help me!

Need more info. Where is the lawn? Sunny or shade? Types of turf there now? Irrigation available? Soil types? What types of weeds are there?
So many questions, so little time…….

I would start by applying a good crabgrass preventer and broadleaf weed control. Live with what you have this season. Test the soil and see what is lacking in the soil. pH, organic matter, calcium to magnesium ratio are all good indicators for how fertle your soil is. Choose a good seed mixture and over seed in September. If you are truly 100% weeds you can renovate with Round up in the fall.
If you must have a great lawn this season you can overseed now and fight the weeds all summer. You will also be fighting with mother nature to keep the shallow rooted turf alive during the heat of the summer.
Crabgrass will thrive without preemergent- but crabgrass is green…….
