WE LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND WE BOUGHT OUR HOUSE 1 YEAR AGO. WE ARE DESPERATE FOR ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO WITH OUR LAWN. IT IS HORRIBLE. WE HAVE GRASS IN PATCHES COVERING ABOUT 60 PERCENT OF THE LOT. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE SOIL IS FILL DIRT. THERE ARE SMALL ROCKS ALL THROUGHOUT OUR YARD. THE THATCH IS HEAVY. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

Get a soil test kit to find out how bad your soil is. Follow the directions in the kit- as to what you need to balance the soil. Sounds like you might also have to rototill the area and start with a new lawn. You can remove surface rocks when you rake the area after tilling.
