Fertilizer

Is applying 10# per 1k of 10-10-10 the same as applying 4# per 1k of 25-0-10? I’m only looking at the Nitrogen in this example. They are the same mathematically, but are there other considerations to take into account?

That’s the way I figure it for 1lb of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft.
Since each number is the percentage of the total weight, 1lb / .10 = 10lbs and 1lb / .25 = 4lbs.
If the release rate of the nitrogen is different between the two then you could run into problems. If you’re looking for slow release and put down fast release you could burn up some turf or have it start out growing fast and being dark green only to quickly slow down and lose it’s fullness and dark green.
My neighbor used to swear by the $4 bag of fertilizer for his lawn until he saw how mine kept its consistency on high quality lesco product.

i agree. lesco has some good product. i have been using a mixture of 34-3-11, and ironite on my yard for the last year. very nice green and thick. BUT, you had better like mowing, cause it grows FAST. this year i put down Aqua Caps in feb. then put down some 25-2-5 about 2 weeks ago. didnt green up too well so i used some liquid 12-0-0. im hoping for a good green up with little top growth

I put down some Lesco 28-5-12 with 50% slow release. Hopefully we’ll get enough rain and my yard will look better this year than it did last year when I did not fertilize enough.
