Doral overseeded?

Is that cool season grass i am seeing at Doral this week? I didn’t think courses in Miami ever winter seeded. Whatever it is…..it sure looks good!

Even in south FL, bermuda has a sluggish growth pattern during the winter months. Athletic fields including golf courses are often overseeded with perennial rye.
That’s also what you will see at Augusta National next month.

Ya, i knew about overseeding in the southeast, but i had never heard of it as far down as Miami! My whole world is has been turned upside down- now that i found out they use rye grass in Miami!haha Yep, lookin forward to seeing Augusta again! I wish they would stripe their fairways though……i don’t like their mowing pattern! I would also like to see them go back to bermuda greens, with poa trivialis overseed.

Could be ryegrass but unlikely. They have come a long way with heat tollerant cultivars of rye but dont forget that soil temps remain higher that far down south which results in the plant not going dormant and being able to utilize nutrients. That combined with a good iron application and your lookin good!!
