resodding my own yard

I’m going to undertake this undertaking of resod’ing my own yard. I live in s. florida and my yard is just a sea of weeds. the ground is soft band may not need to be tilled but at least i have to get rid of the weeds first.
Do I also need to fertize the soil before laying the grass on top of it? or do I fertilize the grass after it’s layed down?
thanks!

Black thumb,The best advise I can give you is to have a soil test performed. The local cooperative extension office should be able to help you with that. Follow the recommendations for a new lawn. If any fertilizer, lime, or organic material is needed it is best to incorporate those items into the top 6-12 inches. The ground should be raked and low spots filled in prior to sodding(this helps with disease and drainage in the long run). Good luck….
